Canton, November 18, 1901. 】
I BEG to inclose herewith copy of my despatch to His Majesty's Minister at Peking, No. 40, Confidential, of the 16th instant, regarding the grant of facilities to British steamers on the West River in respect to additional ports of call which, I now learn, the Commissioner of Customs at Canton proposes to recommend for acceptance by the Chinese Government.
I beg to add that I just learn that eight additional ports of call are being recom- mended, and that these facilities in regard to passenger traffic will practically meet the requirements of the River Steamer Companies.
* Not inclosed, as already sent home by Government of India.
